Carbon Trust Standard

Recognition for reducing use of resources

The Carbon Trust Standard was originally developed in 2008 by the Carbon Trust to encourage good practice in carbon measurement, management and reduction by businesses and public sector organisations. To achieve the standard, companies need to satisfy an independent assessor that their emissions are being reduced, either in absolute terms or relative to a meaningful metric like revenue or headcount. It was adopted as an early action metric in the CRC and has become the World's leading independent certification of carbon emissions reduction.

The Carbon Trust Standard now has two additional constituents, water and waste, in addition to the original energy standard. All three standards can be applied for individually, or in combination.
